Holidays
There are a lot of celebrations in Chinese, like Chinese New Year, Lantern festival, Matsu festival, birthday of Lord Buddha, Boat Festival and much, much more! But I am just going to introduce only some of the festival.
Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year, Chinese New Year was celebrated on the date of January twenty-second (this year only) this is where people get new clothes and clean the house so that all the bad luck would be swept away. These are some of the other things people do on Chinese New Year, put money in the red envelopes (red pockets), big family meal and sacrifices are also offered for the gods. Chinese New Year holidays can be as long as 3 to 5 days long.
Lantern festival
Lantern festival occurs to be on the 15th day of the 1st month, which is right after Chinese New Year. It was believed that spirits can be seen flying on the night of the full moon of the year so people go out with lanterns looking for spirits, the Lantern Festival became a tradition ever since. Now, children go out with Lanterns on evenings to go roam the streets of spirits; not to go looking for spirits.
Dragon Boat Festival
Dragon Boat Festival occurs to be on the 15th day of the 5th month. This was where this festival came from, Long ago in about 277 B.C there was a poet named Chu Yuen, this poet was very nice to everyone, but he lost his life one day, he drowned into the lake and was dead. People were unable to save Chu Yuen and were unable to get his body so they threw bamboo stuffed with cooked rice into the water so that fish would eat the rice instead of the body, this became a tradition ever since. Nowadays people eat tsungtsu, rice dumplings filled with ham or bean paste then wrapped in bamboo leaves, and also people race on this on canoes and the canoes are decorated beautifully. This holiday attracted large crowds when the people are racing.
